Hello fellow SOHO members. I have been a SOHO member for only a few months. I came across an email from Pre-Paid Legal asking me to become a member. Before I do anything I wanted to find out if anyone out there has had any good or bad experiences with this on line company.
I was a member for a little over a year, but never needed use of their services, so it was basically a waste of my money. I know they also offer a job opportunity, but it was too costly for me to try. If you have a need for any of their services, then it may benefit you to become a member.
PrePaid Legal depends on a constant influx of new recruits. (A basic MLM - multi level marketing). And sometimes their work at home ads are not always accurate - and, at times, a little exaggerated.
We (sohojobs) gave them a shot a few years back, allowing them to post an add or two. However, they were accused of being a pyramid scheme (something SOHOjobs does NOT tolerate) and, as a result, the ads were pulled and PPL was no longer allowed to advertise. They sneak in from time to time - under cover - but we are usually able to sniff them out, thanks to you SOHO'ers out there.
PPL markets itself as an HMO for legal services. Consumers pay between $16 and $32.95 a month (the rate varies by state and by the type of plan chosen) for access to a lawyer in Pre-Paid's legal network. If they ever need the services of that lawyer, they will get a 25 percent discount on his or her fees, as well as certain free services, such as one phone call or letter a year. As an associate of PPL, your job would be to sell these services. To become an associate you'll need to pay a fee. About $250.00 I think. You will earn big commissions on recruiting new associates. Recruit more associates earn more money.
So, bottomline - PPL is not a "scam". They've been around for 30 years. But that doesn't mean its for you. Also keep in mind that PPL is not all "work at home" - it will require some face to face meetings in your area.
I have been a member for 4 years and on a scale of 1-10 I give them an 8. They can be good for small legal issues that companies usually get a way with because people can not usually afford a lawyer. I have sold PPL for 4 years and it has been okay. I have helped a lot of people with PPL who needed legal advice. It only cost around $26 per month to retain the firm. It is overall a good piece of insurance to have in case something should legally happen to you.
