It's not really a scam. I was a member of the team several years ago.
Here's how it works. You have to become a customer of Melaleuca. You have to order a minimum number of merchandise per month to remain a customer and "teamer". As a member, you get a big discount on "greener" products, such as household cleaners and beauty supplies.
So, let's say you join and get your membership kit and training materials. (I had to have unlimited long distance and 3 way calling.) The person who signed me up trained me on how to call "leads". Leads are either people you know who might be interested or you can purchase leads online. The idea is to get your leads to agree to set up an appointment for a 3 way call to the information line. You'll have a list of times and dates to choose from.
You and your lead listen to the speaker explain the work at home opportunity. After the call, you'll talk to your lead and see if he/she is interested in joining the team. If they join, you will become their trainer and the cycle repeats. You make money by getting a percentage of whatever they order and who they sign up.
Pros: great, environmentally sound products Making new friends Unlimited earning potential
Cons: that monthly minimum order! Having to purchase your own leads (the price varies) Arranging your schedule around call times
In essence, it is a real opportunity to make money. I quit doing it because I really didn't need that much merchandise per month. It was a fun experience and I don't want to sway you either way.
Overall, most people report being unhappy with the MomTeam program. I think there are people out there that have earned money with it, but for the most part, the vast majority felt it was a waste of time.
