Is Net Transcripts a legit "employer"?

I received an email from them that I fall within their criteria for possible employment.  Problem:  they claim they want $55 "Due to an IRS audit that encompassed a review of this process".  They claim that you can request a one time bonus of $55 upon completion of the a few steps.  It all sounded so promising up until this point.  Please, anyone with any knowledge of this company, respond and let me know if this is legit.

My experience is if they ask you for money then usually it's not legit. I mean how much sense does it make for them to charge you a fee to hire you?????

Actually - Net Transcripts is very legit. (If they were not legit we would not list them on our forum!)

Many SOHO'ers and others are currently working for them. The fee covers training materials.

We asked Net Transcripts years ago why they charge the fee. Here's the response we received from them:

" We are often asked by potential contractors why they must pay for software, specifications and training. This is a great question as there are many opportunities available that do not require any investment on your part or the company you are performing work for reimburses for expenses.  In the earlier years of our operation, we had the benefit of being audited by the IRS. The auditor reviewed our business model and the relationships we had with our contractors. The auditor determined that we must charge for specifications and training in order to consider an individual a contractor. Therefore, we have stuck to this since our inception in 1988. We've also found that it reduces the number of applicants leaving us with only the best and most serious job seekers. With regards to work from home job offers we can be very picky due to the number of resumes we receive. The fee not only reduces our work load but leaves us with applicants who are READY to work. It gets rid of all the rest who do not yet have the equipment, experience or mindset."

I believe that you must also have a foot pedal and a headset. Very few transcriptionists can work from home without these basics so I would assume that anyone looking to type or do transcription work from home would already have this equipment.

Net Transcripts offers solid work from home, regular pay and great opportunities to work a flexible schedule. I would act fast, they do not always have openings available and these jobs are highly competitive.

I would advise everyone to really consider this and others jobs like Net Transcripts that we post. While - yes - some fee based offers are scams, many are NOT!! It is a simple fact of "work at home" life that certain basics will be required - software, experience, equipment, security clearances or whatever. Again, we would not post the Net Transcripts jobs in our members forum if it was not a legit offer.

Please let us know how this turns out for you!
